| Central Arkansas Research was founded in 1992 by Dr. Richard Pellegrino who has written numerous scientific Articles and has served on the Board of Trustees of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators since 2002 (APPI). Located in scenic Hot Springs, Arkansas, CARE offices are conveniently located in the Medical Office Building adjacent to St. Joseph’s Mercy Health Center. Dr. Pellegrino is on the clinical staff at St. Joseph’s Mercy Health Center, HealthPark Hospital and National Park Medical Center.

CARE has an affilitated 2000 square foot, six bed sleep lab. The lab is staffed by 5 sleep technicians who are also trained as clinical research coordinators. Susan Griffin, LPN, RPsgT is the Director of the labratory.

Richard G. Pellegrino, MD, Ph.D
President and Principal Investigator
Dr. Richard Pellegrino received an M.S. in Cell Biology from Yale University, an M.D,Ph.D. and second masters in Neuroscience from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He did his neurology residency at Columbia University in NYC and at Penn State University. A post doctoral fellowship in Pharmacology was supported by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and was also done at Yale. In addition to his work at CARE, he runs a clinical practice, Pellegrino Center for Clinical Neuroscience, also located in Hot Springs, AR. He is on the Board of Trustees of the APPI ( Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators) and sits on the Ethics Committee as well as chairing and founding the Patient Advocacy Committee. Dr. Pellegrino is the recipient of the 1995 Ten Outstanding Young Americans Award. He received this award for his work in founding and helping develop INNResearch, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to providing information and access to an underserved elderly population. He is also founder and President of the Physicians Media Project. The mission of the Project is to provide a direct media voice for patients. The purpose is to help develop tools and products that facilitate the accurate portrayal of the human side of illness in television, movies and newspapers. He has a regular newspaper column in the Hot Springs Sentinel Record, has produced a documentary on multiple sclerosis and has written a medical thriller, Point Source.
